On June 24, 2023, China Tianying's wholly-owned subsidiary, Jiangsu Nengying New Energy Technology Development Co., Ltd., signed a cooperation agreement with the People's Government of Huailai County to build a 100MWh gravity energy storage project in Huailai County, Hebei Province, China. Yan Feng, Deputy County Governor of Huailai County, and Lu Ping, Vice President of China Tianying and Chairman of Jiangsu Nengying, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective parties. Jia Bing, Secretary of the Huailai County Party Committee, Bai Youqiang, Member of the Huailai County Party Committee and Director of the County Party Committee Office, Yan Shengjun, Chairman of China Tianying, and Cao Debiao, President of China Tianying, attended the signing ceremony.
According to the agreement, the two parties will uphold the principle of "joint development and win-win cooperation", give full play to their respective resource advantages, and achieve mutually beneficial and win-win development. Specifically, China Tianying will invest in and build a 100MWh gravity energy storage project in Cunrui Town, Huailai County, which includes the construction of energy storage systems, power generation systems, transmission systems, control systems, booster stations, and other auxiliary facilities. The gravity energy storage technology carried by the project will provide stable and high-quality green electricity for data centers, create a globally demonstrative green and low-carbon data center, and serve the rapid development of the data industry in Huailai County, strongly promoting the construction of a new power system in Huailai and creating a new highland for new energy in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
In early 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission and four other ministries approved the start of construction of a national hub node in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, planning to establish a data center cluster in Zhangjiakou, which will undertake real-time computing needs from Beijing and other places. As the starting area of the data center cluster in Zhangjiakou, Huailai County is currently making every effort to build a highland for the data industry. The essence of a data center is to convert electricity into computing power. With the rapid growth of digital demand, data centers have become high-energy-consuming industries and "carbon emitters". In the context of the national carbon neutrality strategy, the use of green energy is an excellent solution for carbon neutrality in data centers.
During the event, Jia Bing, Secretary of the Huailai County Party Committee, said that General Secretary Xi Jinping had instructed during his inspection tour of Hebei that he wanted to "make the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region a pioneer and demonstration zone for China's modernization construction", and that big data and new energy were two key drivers for the economic and social development of Zhangjiakou. The gravity energy storage project signed with China Tianying this time meets the requirements of the country for achieving the dual carbon goals and promoting green development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. It will become a leading demonstration project that integrates big data and new energy, and realizes international application scenarios. Huailai will do its utmost to assist China Tianying in promoting the rapid implementation and landing of the project, and look forward to more extensive cooperation with China Tianying in the fields of ecological and environmental protection such as environmental governance, waste management, mine management, data center waste heat utilization, and carbon reduction.
Yan Shengjun, Chairman of China Tianying, said that Huailai has distinctive economic and social development characteristics and has achieved remarkable results in the development of new energy and digital industries under the strategy of "ecology first, digital leadership". The successful signing of this contract is not only a major milestone for Huailai's data industry based on the "3060" carbon neutrality and green high-quality development, but also one of the key drivers for Huailai to create a national green data center innovation demonstration zone. It is also another important application scenario for China Tianying's gravity energy storage technology in economic and social development. China Tianying attaches great importance to this cooperation, and will establish a special team to ensure the rapid and successful implementation of the Huailai project, create the "best solution" for gravity energy storage based on data center application scenarios, and make it a benchmark project in China and even the world. China Tianying hopes to use this as a starting point to deepen exchanges with Huailai in the fields of carbon sequestration, carbon neutrality, and carbon trading, and contribute to the economic and social development of Huailai.
Gravity energy storage technology can maintain an efficiency of up to 85% over a lifespan of up to 50 years. Compared with other forms of energy storage, gravity energy storage has significant advantages in terms of deployment conditions (available in urban areas), energy storage capacity, energy storage duration, and safety. It has great potential in the field of renewable energy integration, peak shaving, load balancing, and emergency backup power supply. The successful implementation of the Huailai project will not only provide a reliable and stable power supply for data centers but also promote the development of renewable energy, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to the construction of a low-carbon society.
